Digital Training for Women

Fri 20th April 2018

Lancashire Women’s Centres have been awarded funding to deliver the Reach IT project to women in Lancashire.

The project started in October 2017 and will run until November 2019 and sees the appointment of three part time Project and Volunteer Coordinators and a part time Support Officer.

LWC are among a selection of local agencies delivering the project. The Reach IT project is part funded by The European Social Fund and matched by The Big Lottery Fund for Building Better Opportunities Projects for Lancashire. Project coordinators at LWC will be focusing on delivering the programme, at their centres and other local venues to women who are out of work or economically inactive in the Lancashire area. The programme itself starts with providing training on basic IT and online skills, participants are then encouraged to develop more specialised skills fitting their personal needs. Whether that be learning how to create documents like CV’s or letters, or how to fill in online forms each person is given an opportunity to explore their individual goals, to suit their needs and lifestyle. The course can be completed on a 1:1 basis or in a group and can take 6 - 12 weeks, once completed the learner can take on a volunteer role and become a Digital Buddy supporting their fellow learners. Digital Buddies then have the opportunity to become Digital Champions and take their learning onto a whole new level. Digital Champion training is certified training carried out by the WEA, and ensures that the volunteers learns about supporting individuals in a learning environment.

Digital Buddies and Digital Champions volunteering for LWC will also be trained on additional policies and procedures within the remit of LWC volunteers, be DBS checked and have additional certificated learning opportunities.

As the project roles out across Lancashire participants are starting to sign up and LWC is excited about offering this great new training and opportunities to women in the area.
